Why it is here

The Statement4 carries the Reference4's nude Shibata on machined boron, and three changes matter most. The body is Brazilian ebony, the copper inside is 7N where the Reference4's is 6N, and the output is 1.0 mV and nothing else. It's a little heavier too, 10 grams against 9.6.

Check that output first. A 1.0 mV cartridge needs a phono stage with moving coil gain, and Grado wants it loaded at 10k to 47k ohms rather than the low load a moving coil usually gets. On a moving magnet input, the Reference4 in high output carries the same diamond and cantilever.

Grado patented a stereo moving coil cartridge before it settled on moving iron, and its claim for this series is that moving iron can match a moving coil's resolution and speed.

How it is built

Brazilian ebony body. Nude Shibata diamond on a machined boron cantilever, 7N OCC copper coils, 10 grams.

What it is for

An arm that can balance 10 grams, and a phono stage with moving coil gain that you can set to 10k to 47k ohms.
