Why it is here

The Green4 is the cheapest of Grado's Prestige cartridges. It's a moving iron design, Grado's flux-bridger: the coils stay fixed in the body and the stylus moves a tiny piece of iron rather than a magnet or a coil, which keeps the moving parts light. It puts out 4 mV, the level a moving magnet phono input expects.

The body is molded black plastic with a silver side plate, and the whole cartridge weighs 6 grams. The diamond is an elliptical on an aluminium cantilever, and the stylus pulls out in one piece when it's worn.

Grado publishes the same specification for the Green4, Red4 and Gold4: same output, same diamond and cantilever, same weight. On paper the Green4 gives up nothing to the other two.

How it is built

Moving iron, Grado's flux-bridger generator, in a molded body with a silver side plate. Elliptical diamond on an aluminium cantilever, 5N OCC copper coils, 6 grams.

What it is for

For a turntable with a moving magnet phono input. Get P-mount if your cartridge plugs straight into the arm and is held by a single screw, the T4P fitting Technics developed in the 1980s, most common on linear-tracking decks. Get standard mount if it bolts on with two screws. Not sure which you have? Tell us the turntable.
